A chilling discovery has shaken the Canberra community: a 41-year-old man from Belconnen has been charged in connection to the alleged creation of pipe bombs. This week, authorities uncovered 15 explosive devices scattered along the footpaths of Canberra's north, specifically near Lake Ginninderra. This shocking event has raised serious concerns about safety and security within the community.
The investigation began after the discovery of these dangerous devices. Some had already detonated, while others were carefully detonated by the police. But here's where it gets controversial: The investigation quickly led police to a 41-year-old man. Allegedly, this individual purchased and stole the necessary components for the pipe bombs from a local Belconnen store. A search of his Belconnen home revealed further evidence, including items used in the assembly of these deadly weapons.
The suspect was apprehended in a Gungahlin unit, and now faces serious charges. He's been charged with the unauthorized manufacture of a prohibited dangerous substance, possessing a prohibited weapon, and theft. He is scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow. Police have indicated that further charges are likely to be filed as the investigation continues.
Interestingly, ACT Policing has stated that they do not believe this incident is related to terrorism.
