In an exciting development for the community, a local General Practitioner (GP) is set to lead a significant £20 million initiative aimed at revitalizing Fleetwood. Dr. Mark Spencer has been appointed as the chair of the Pride in Fleetwood funding panel, a key component of a government program designed to empower residents to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their town.
Over the next ten years, Fleetwood will benefit from an annual injection of £2 million dedicated to enhancing public areas, improving the high street, and upgrading community facilities. This initiative represents a substantial investment in the town's infrastructure and quality of life.
Back in November, Lorraine Beavers, the Member of Parliament for Blackpool North and Fleetwood, announced that the search was on for a suitable local leader to take on the voluntary chairman role. Dr. Spencer, who has a deep commitment to community health, serves as both the founder and ambassador for Healthier Fleetwood. Additionally, he chairs the Fleetwood Trust, which operates The HUB Fleetwood—a community project housed in a former hospital, signifying his extensive involvement in local initiatives.
Dr. Spencer’s experience as a GP complements his dedication to various community projects, making him an ideal candidate for this leadership position. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, individuals interested in joining the board responsible for directing the fund must either reside or work in Fleetwood, with a commitment to always prioritize the voices of the community. Board members are also required to attend monthly meetings to ensure ongoing engagement and collaboration.
If you’re passionate about making a difference in Fleetwood and want to contribute to this exciting project, expressions of interest for board membership can be submitted to lorraine.beavers.mp@parliament.uk by January 19.
