Joe Rogan believes a new championship belt should be introduced for the anticipated match between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira at the upcoming UFC event in Washington D.C., hosted at the White House.
The prominent UFC commentator has been vocal about urging Dana White to reconsider his stance regarding this highly anticipated matchup that is set to headline a special card celebrating the sport.
Following President Donald Trump’s announcement about hosting UFC fights at the White House, Jon Jones, who recently came out of a brief retirement, has expressed his eagerness to return to the octagon. Despite being a major attraction in the UFC, Jones has even shown willingness to fight on the undercard if it guarantees him a spot on the historic card at the White House.
However, Dana White has not been enthusiastic about this idea, firmly pushing back against any discussions of a potential showdown between Jones and the reigning light heavyweight champion at this event.
Rogan remains hopeful for a change in White's position on the matter and has proposed that the UFC create a heavyweight version of the BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) title specifically for this fight.
In his recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he shared, "They should definitely have Alex Pereira go up against him at the White House. I’m talking about a heavyweight version of the BMF belt, you know what I mean?" Currently, the BMF title is held by Max Holloway in the lightweight category, which was first established during Jorge Masvidal’s fight against Nate Diaz.
Despite Rogan’s enthusiasm and support from notable figures like Conor McGregor, White’s reluctance remains evident. Pereira has also recently cast doubt on the likelihood of their clash taking place at the White House, indicating in a social media post that, despite both fighters being open to the idea, it seems increasingly unlikely.
Pereira tweeted alongside an image of himself with Dana White, saying, "Looks like the White House is a no go!!!" This news has led to speculation about a possible interim heavyweight title fight between Pereira and Ciryl Gane while Tom Aspinall recovers from his eye injury.
