Lakers' Redick Defends Interaction with Doncic as 'Very Normal'
LOS ANGELES -- After a heated exchange between Lakers player JJ Redick and Luka Doncic went viral, Redick addressed the online frenzy, stating that the interaction was nothing out of the ordinary.
"I don't understand why it became such a big deal," Redick said during a press conference ahead of the Lakers' game against the New Orleans Pelicans. "It felt like a regular part of the game to me."
The incident occurred during the Lakers' victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, when Doncic was substituted and walked away without a fist bump from Redick. Redick followed Doncic, engaging in a brief argument before returning to the halfcourt.
Redick explained, "I didn't think much of it at the time. Luka and I have a great relationship, and we're both competitive. These things happen frequently in basketball, and sometimes you need to address them with teammates."
The Lakers were on a losing streak before the Warriors game, which added to the tension. However, a Lakers source downplayed the significance, suggesting that frustration is common among players on a losing streak.
A source close to Doncic confirmed their close relationship, noting their shared competitive drive. Doncic's performance in the Warriors game, with 26 points and 8 assists, and the subsequent win over the Sacramento Kings, with 28 points and 9 assists, showcased his continued success.
Redick humorously addressed the online reaction, "I didn't feel any tension. Luka didn't either. It's part of the game. People will always have opinions, and that's normal in the world of sports."
Despite the online buzz, Redick and Doncic's relationship remains strong, and they continue to focus on their basketball goals.
