NASA invites media to participate in its 2026 Lunabotics Challenge, a robotics event set for May 19-21, at the Astronauts Memorial Foundation’s Center for Space Education. The competition features college teams designed to build lunar robot prototypes capable of creating berm structures—protection barriers from regolith—to safeguard Artemis missions. Teams must develop these systems to shield equipment from debris, manage cryogenic propellant, and protect nuclear infrastructure. This year’s challenge aims to enhance student STEM engagement through hands-on design and innovation. Historically established since 2010, the competition aligns with NASA’s Artemis program, focusing on preparing astronauts for future lunar exploration. Media are encouraged to attend live events on Wednesday, May 20, and RSVP by April 18 by email ksc-newsroom@mail.nasa.gov. The competition promises to foster critical engineering skills while connecting young minds to space research.
