The 'Energy Wise' rates are coming, and most customers will be switched over by April 1st. This plan divides electricity usage into on-peak and off-peak times, with higher rates during peak hours. On-peak rates will apply weekdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., when demand is typically at its highest. Off-peak rates, which are lower, will be in effect before 5 p.m. and after 9 p.m., as well as on weekends and holidays. Springs Utilities explains that summer rates will be higher due to increased demand, while winter rates will be lower. But here's where it gets interesting: if you don't want to play by the time-of-day rules, there are two other options. The 'Energy Wise Plus' plan is similar to the main Energy Wise plan but offers a lower rate during 'saver' periods, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, including holidays. The 'Fixed Seasonal Rate' plan, on the other hand, doesn't have peak or off-peak times, but it's priced between the two. This means it's higher than off-peak rates but lower than on-peak rates.
